Our story

A small workshop in India making one portrait at a time, from photographs people care about.

What we make

Portraits cut into real wood from a photograph you send us. Not a print, not a filter, not an image sitting behind glass — the face is carved into the grain, so it catches light differently depending on where you hang it.

Most of what we make is a gift, and most of it is a gift about someone: a parent, a grandparent, a wedding, someone who is no longer here. That shapes how we work more than any machine does.

Until recently every one of these was ordered by messaging us on WhatsApp, one conversation at a time. That is still how the proofs and the questions work. This site exists so you do not have to type your address into a chat window, not because anything else changed.

How it started

We would rather leave this blank than make something up, and we have not written it down properly yet. Ask us on WhatsApp and we will happily tell you the whole thing.

How a portrait is actually made

You send a photo. We convert it by hand into a carving file — deciding what becomes shadow, what becomes highlight, and what gets left out, because a photograph has far more detail than wood can hold. That judgement is the craft; the machine only executes it.

Then we send you a proof of exactly what the machine will cut. Only once you say yes does a piece of wood go under the tool.

Why the proof exists

Because the honest answer to “will it look like them?” is that sometimes the first attempt does not, and you should not be the one paying for that. Showing you the design before cutting turns a leap of faith into a decision you can make with your eyes open — and if you never approve it, you never pay for it.

It is also the reason we are comfortable taking payment upfront. The money buys you a proof and a promise, and the promise is refundable.

Where we are

One workshop in India. We will put the address here once we have decided whether we can have people dropping in while the machine is running.

Our promise

  • Proof before we cut

You see a digital proof before any wood is touched.

  • Revisions until it’s right

Not quite right? We do it again. As many times as it takes.

  • Full refund if you don’t approve

You never approved it, you don’t pay for it.
